The sides have carrying handles while the infeed and outfeed tables are foldable. Once you try out a benchtop planer, you’ll never go back to using a hand planer again. On each side of the machine there are tables, infeed and outfeed.
I am not aware of any wood species that a 15-amp motor would struggle with. Most of us start woodworking with pre-dimensioned lumber from the local hardware or big box stores. That limits your selection to mostly construction lumbers made from cedar, pine, fir, and redwood. Creating usable wood from rough sawn timber opens up many wood species that are not available pre-dimensioned.

Snipe is an issue just like on the other planers . You can set up the jig on a long workbench or countertop, but I use mine right on the shop floor or, in good weather, on the deck. Now to the issue of snipe, this is the first planer I’ve ever used so this is new to me.
The rotating cutting knives cut away thin layers of the wood, giving the desired finish. Wood planers have built-in thickness dials which allow you to set the thickness the planer cuts. The rosewood handle and cast-iron base make this manual hand planer really great quality. It’s comfortable to hold and has a high-quality feel. The 22” base is impressive, giving a smooth finish with less effort.
The planer comes with a table made of cast iron and a sturdy base which provide strength and reduce vibrations while you work. It has lockable casters already built-in to add stability and support while making the planer highly maneuverable.
Then the head of the planer rides up four 3/4″ stainless steel rods which is very smooth. If our math is correct, it takes 96 turns to move the head from the very top to the bottom, which is 6″. One full turn of the crank moves the head up or down 1/16″. Right underneath the handle is an adjustment ring that helps with fine tune adjustments, as fine as 1/128″ Using the ring is easy and practical. Similar to portable planers but these are slightly larger in size and need a flat surface to operate. They are powerful, manage to produce deeper cuts and hence handle higher thickness and use induction motors with a high power output.
